1. Name of the Project: 8th Kolkata to Kunming (K2K Forum)

8th Kolkata to Kunming (K2K Forum) was organized during 20-21 November 2012 at Kunming in collaboration with Yunnan Development Research Centre (YDRC), China.

Source of Funding: Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Nature of the Project: CSIRD serves as the nodal agency for the K2K Forum which has emerged as the only bilateral civilian initiative between India and China. The Forum meets every year alternatively in India (West Bengal) and in China (Yunnan). It works as a facilitating platform promoting economic, cultural and academic interactions between India and China at the sub-regional level. The 8th Forum was held in Kunming during November 2012. A 17 member delegation from India, headed by Shri Krishnan Srinivasan, traveled to Kunming to participate at the Forum. The delegation comprised representatives from industry, media and academics. CSIRD, being the nodal agency mobilized the delegation, arranged for the visit and set the agenda for the discussion. A report compiled on the proceedings of the 8th K2K Forum was prepared and submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs (Public Diplomacy Division).

2. Name of the Project: BIMSTEC: What is Achieved and Where to Go?

BIMSTEC: What is Achieved and Where to Go? (A Seminar) 12-13 March 2013.

Source of Funding: Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta.

Nature of the Project: A two day seminar was organized in Kolkata on the above subject with the participation of scholars and diplomats of all Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) countries. The seminar was organized in collaboration with Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta. It focused on the potential of economic cooperation among the BIMSTEC countries and its emergence as an effective regional organization with active Indian initiative. The proceedings of the seminar were complied as a Report and was released in a Curtain Raiser on BIMSTEC held in Yangon later. A book is also in the process of publication.

3. Name of the Project: Strategic Juxtaposition of India and China in 21st Century Global Order

Strategic Juxtaposition of India and China in 21st Century Global Order (A Round Table) 18th March 2013

Source of Funding: Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta

Nature of the Project: A one day Round Table was organized in collaboration with Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta on the above subject involving scholars from India. The proceedings of the Round Table will be published shortly as an edited volume.

4. Name of the Project: Possibilities and Impediments of Overland Economic Engagement between Eastern India and South Western China (A Study)

Nature of the Project: This is a study commissioned to find out the economic complementarities that exist between Eastern Provinces of India and South-western province (Yunnan). The idea is to find feasibility of overland economic engagement with China in a sustainable manner. The other objective of the study is to identify specific sectors in which both India and China can begin economic cooperation at the sub-regional level. The findings of the study will be published as a book and is scheduled to be released on 21 November 2013 on the occasion of 9th K2K Forum.
