The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Assistance (BIMSTEC) as an emergent sub-regional arrangement is believed to bear a potential to develop intra-regional trade but there are a number of issues and impediments that need to be sorted before success sees the light of the day. Such is the general view of the experts who have been in association with this multilateral institutional arrangement academically or otherwise from practical experience. The two day international conference organised by the Centre for Studies International along with the Institute of Foreign Policy of Calcutta University focused on the potential of trade within the region through BIMSTEC.
