The year 2013 witnessed the change of guard in China with Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang taking over as the President and Premier of China respectively. Noteworthy, that the Premier chose India as the destination of his first overseas visit, though, along with an untimely and unnecessary visit to Pakistan. However, the Li visit did steer the India-China relationship firmly in a positive direction. Eight specific agreements were signed; all facilitating interactions at various levels. Indications were made to interact in as many matters possible and to open up means of communication between the two countries. The idea of a regional corridor crossing through Bangladesh and Myanmar connecting Kolkata to Kunming was regarded as worth pursuing.
